Yeddyurappa Resigns As Karnataka Chief Minister, uncertainty on successor
Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa resigned his post on Monday amidst emotional scenes. While announcing his resignation he broke down on stage. The 78 year old Yediyurappa played a huge role in Kannada politics for many decades. Before the announcement of his stepping down the post he said 'I have a debt to pay back to the people of Karnataka. I ask officers and MLAs that people have lost trust in all of us. We should work harder and in a clean and honest way. Many officials are honest. All should become that. Bangalore is being developed to be a world class city'.
But it is not known how the BJP will utilize his services in future. Mr. Yediyurappa told when he returned from Delhi after meeting with PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and National resident J.P. Nadda that the high command asked him to strengthen the party in the state. Also it is uncertain as of now who will be the successor of Ydiyurappa.
Meanwhile, many names are popping up as front-runners for the Chief Minister post. Replacing the Lingayat strongman is going to be a task for the BJP. Some of the current front-runners may come from Lingayat, Vokkaliga and Brahmin communities.
Three time MLA Mr. Murugesh Nirani, currently Minister for Mines and Geology, is from the Panchamasali sect, the largest in the Lingayat community. Arvind Bellad, MLA from Hubli-Dharwad,
He is the son of veteran RSS and BJP leader Chandrakant Bellad . He also comes from the Panchamasali Lingayat sect.
Mr. Basavaraj Bommai – Home Minister, CN Ashwatha Narayan, Deputy Chief Minister, he is from the Vokkaliga community. CT Ravi – National General Secretary, BJP is a Hindutva hardliner belonging from the Vokkaliga community and has served as a cabinet minister in the Yediyurappa government and became the national general secretary of the party. Pralhad Joshi – Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs. Pralhad Joshi is a Brahmin who is also a four-time MP from Dharwad. The 58-year-old minister is known to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other national leaders of BJP and the RSS.
