Sirisha Bandla – First Telugu Woman to Space
It is a proud moment for Telugu people. Sirisha Bandla would be the first Telugu woman to go on a space mission.
An Indian-American astronaut Sirisha Bandla who is a 34 year old Telugu origin girl is one among the crew members travelling in a spacecraft on 11th July. British-American spaceflight firm Virgin Galactic is all set to test its spacecraft in which mission, Sirsha will be playing a major role. The test flight will be launched from New Mexico on the 11th of his month, the company said in a statement on Twitter with a short video where it introduces the crew members. The Mission was named Unity-22. As a part of the six member crew along with the founder of Virgin Galactic Richard Branson, Bandla's role will be that of a researcher.
About Sirisha Bandla:
Looking at the background of Sirisha, she was born in Tenali, Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Her parents are Dr. Muralidhar and Mrs. Anuradha. Dr. Muralidhar is an agricultural scientist who moved to the US for better opportunities and so Sirisha was brought up in Houston. To fulfill her dream to go to space, she enrolled in the aeronautical engineering course and graduated from Purdue University. Sirisha is working in the department of government affairs and business development of Virgin Galactic company. Sirisha is the second Indian born woman to go into space after Kapana Chawla and the fourth Indian to fly into space.
Rakesh Sharma created record as first Indian astronaut and Kalpana Chawla was the first Indian woman. Sunitha Williams also has Indian origin as her roots. Now it is a matter of pride to all Telugu people as Sirisha is the first woman to go into space.
