Ruling YSRCP claims Eluru Municipal Corporation
The YSRCP has added to its tally with another Municipal Corporation. The YSRCP has already captured 16 Municipal Corporations in the state in the March 10th elections. Now the much awaited results of Eluru Municipal Corporation (West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh) were declared today on 25th July following the Election commission was permitted to count the votes polled in the March 10th election. Even if the Court permits, due to Covid pandemic, the counting process was delayed till now.
YSRCP had won 3 seats unanimously while elections were held. So out of 50 Divisions in the Corporation, elections were held for 47 Divisions. But the counting of votes together with other Municipalities Eluru Municipal Corporation was held following several allegations. Now on the HCs order the Elections Commission took up the counting and declared results.
Out of 47 divisions that went for polls the YSRCP bagged 44 divisions in today's vote counting. Three TDP candidates got a mandate.
The Eluru Municipal Corporation this time allotted it to the Woman General category. Former Mayor Shaik Nur jahan who won from the 50th Division was decided as YSRCP Mayor this time. She won with a 570 vote majority over her opponent. Also the party declared five other Deputy Mayors for one year each. This move is seen to pacify the aspirants of Mayor post, sources said.
