Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi on Sunday appointed Navjot Singh Sidhu as the new President of Punjab Congress's unit. His appointment came after months of infighting in the state unit as he rebelled against Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's Government over several issues.
Besides Sidhu as President, four working Presidents were also appointed to assist him in the ensuing assembly elections next year. The new working Presidents are Sangat Singh Gilzian,Pawan Goel, Kuljit Singh Nagra and Sukhwinder Singh Danny.
These appointments will come into effect with immediate effect, a statement issued by Congress party General Secretary Mr. K.C. VenuGopal, said. 'The party appreciates the contributions of outgoing PCC president Sunil Jakhar', the statement added.
Mr. Nagra who was in-charge of party affairs in Sikkim, Nagaland and Tripura has been relieved of his new responsibilities. This decision came out after a hectic meeting between congress high command with Amarinder Singh and Sidhu.
