‘Hunger Virus’ killing 11 people per minute : Oxfam reports
While the world gripped in deadly Covid19 virus since one and half year with death rate at 7 per minute, another virus kills 11people per minute the Oxfam organisation which works on poverty elimination reports as saying that the virus called ‘ Hunger’. The acute hunger is linked to three lethal ‘Cs’ viz. conflict, Covid-19 and the climate crisis. These three ‘Cs’ deepened poverty and catastrophic food insecurity in the world’s hunger hotspots, the report said.
Economic disruption of the pandemic and an escalating climate crisis have pushed millions of people into extreme food insecurity and some to the brink of starvation, Oxfam stated. The deadly virus covid-19 deepens the hunger crisis in the world’s hunger hotspots and creates new epicenters of hunger across the globe. The report revealed that 15.5 crores people have fallen to food crisis . 65 percent of the people who fell to it belong to the country that faces a military crisis. The pandemic situation, the aid from developed countries to poor nations became less.
The Oxfam lamented as many as 5.2 lakh people died due to the economic crisis caused by corona, lockdowns together with war-like atmosphere. Many countries with their compulsions spent Rs.5,100 crores on strengthening their defence forces. This amount is six times what the United Nations Organization (UNO) wants to spend on to tackle hunger, the report said. The Oxfam urges to join them in helping communities overcome the # Hunger Virus. Oxfam is an international confederation of 20 NGOs working with partners in over 90 countries to end the injustices that cause poverty.
