Can Padayatra make a political party to win power?
In Telugu states Pada yatras (long march) has significance in politics especially from Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's legacy. In United Andhra Pradesh he started a long march (padayatra) programme with a view to meet people across the state by exposing erstwhile Telugu Desam Party's rule before he became Chief Minister. He walked miles and miles starting from Chevella in Ranga Reddy District to Srikakulam district before 2004 assembly elections in United Andhra Pradesh. Finally, he was successful in his efforts and became Chief Minister of AP and ruled for complete 5 years term and again in 2009 too he held Chief Minister post and worked for a few months as he died in a chopper mishap due to bad weather when he was on his programme to attend 'Rachabanda'. That was the first big padayatra in a Telugu state.
After that Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Telugu Desam party Supremo has also taken up a Padayatra by name 'Vasthunna Mi kosam' and walked miles of distance creating record. He walked more miles than Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Chandrababu kicked off his padayatra from Hindupur seeking to expose the then Congress Government indecisions on Telangana issue and failure in Administration. He walked nearly 2000kilometers in 117 days covering 13 districts. He exposed the mis- rule of Congress and accusing the party is cause of bifurcation of United Andhra Pradesh. He achieved his target and resurrected his Telugu Desam party in to Power and became first Chief Minister of residuary state of Andhra Pradesh and ruled for 5 complete terms in office.
When comes to 2019 assembly elections Mr. Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy of YSR Congress Party began another padayatra by name 'Praja Sankalp Yatra' and created a record by walking around 3000 kilometres. He was blessed by the people of Andhra Pradesh and became Chief Minister with thumping majority giving surprise to politicians and observers. Now he is completed two years of his term going implementing unforeseen welfare schemes in the state, though critics found him faulty for throwing the state in debts and heavy burden on exchequer with his indiscriminate attitude.
Now coming to Telangana State leaders of all major parties are ready to take up long marches (Padayatras) across the state. So far it seems there is a star war in the state with Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban development Mr. K. Taraka Rama rao known as KTR already began touring nook and corner. Now a young and dynamic leader Revanth and Bandi Sanjay, state BJP president are in fray locking horns.
With the appointment of Revanth Reddy as Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee the party cadre is in full josh. Mr. Revanth Reddy is also gearing up to fill encouragement in the cadre. In an attempt to go ahead together with dissent senior leaders, he sought blessings by meeting them personally. Revanth is going to take charge of TPCC on 7th July at Gandhi bhavan at 12 pm. before that he offers prayers at Peddamma temple and later Dargah. Mr. Revanth Reddy decided to take up long march across Telangana state to expose TRS Government. 'Huzurabad byelection will be the first test to Revanth Reddy to prove his capability. If all the seniors cooperate wholeheartedly with Revanth Reddy Congress party will certainly be in the race in next elections, political circles stated.
AT the same time Bharathiya Janata party which has big hopes of coming in to power after next elections bite a little bit shock with the appointment of Revanth as PCC Chief, as it was in opinion that congress is not a strong contender. When Revanth came into scene BJP seems to change its strategies.BJP taking Huzurabad by-election seriously and put all its efforts to wrest the seat where former minister Etala is expected to be BJP candidate. To expose TRS and its leaders alleged corrupt practices, BJP state President Bandi Sanjay will also be taking long March starting from Bhagya Lakshmi temple at Charminar to Adilabad district. BJP top boss has high expectations on padayatra that will fetch in a big way and boost up the party image.
